Mercedes-Benz’s Naming Structure Sees Better Alignment for 2016
If you’re a seasoned pro when it comes to the new Mercedes-Benz lineup, you likely have no problem differentiating one model from another. Heck, you may even be able to tell one trim level from another just from a look.
But for those who are newer to the brand, or to the luxury segment in general in League City, TX, Mercedes-Benz noticed that the lineup structure wasn’t as intuitive as it could be. Not as smooth as the Mercedes-Benz persona they represent. So, they made a change.
In 2014, we saw the first of the movement, as their luxury SUVs lined up under the “G” moniker (the GLA, GLK, G-Class, etc.) But even that wasn’t enough. They knew they could do better. So, for 2016 and on, drivers will see a clearer, more transparent way of understanding the new Mercedes-Benz lineup through the use of class-based “linking letters”. Ex: Mercedes-Benz GLE (based on mid-level E Class) and the all-new Mercedes-Benz GLC (based on small C Class, formerly known as the GLK).
